Hopescourt Mathematics Curriculum Intent
At Hopescourt School, our Mathematics curriculum from KS3 to KS4 is designed to:
- Engage students through a range of topics which build upon the fundamentals to develop their understanding.
- Aspire to excellence by nurturing high expectations and a deep understanding through worked examples related to everyday situation.
- Be Future Ready by equipping students with the mathematical fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills essential for success in further education, employment, and life.
Implementation
KS3 (Years 7–9)
- Engagement: Mixed ability teaching, real-world contexts, and active learning strategies such as visual geometry, data handling, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Aspiration: Structured progression from foundational number and algebra to advanced reasoning and graphing, with regular assessments, supported in threading Maths in activities across the school.
- Be Future Ready: Emphasis on transferable skills used in everyday life such as ratio, proportion, statistics, and algebraic modelling and number work which prepares students for KS4 and beyond.
KS4 (Years 10–11)
- Engagement: Continued use of interactive methods and practical applications, including area, volume, and compound units.
- Aspiration: Students are extended to tackle higher-tier content where appropriate, with opportunities to gain Functional Skills qualifications.
- Be Future Ready: Topics such as functions, formulae, iteration, and measures of accuracy build analytical and logical thinking for real-world and academic success.
